If You Saw Me Walking Around With a Parasol, Would You Laugh?

Because I kinda want to start carrying one to protect my skin from the brutal summer sun. You see, I am of the pigment-deprived variety, and sunscreen alone doesn't prevent new freckles and spots from popping up on my arms and shoulders (I wear a hat to shield my face). If I want to stay lily-white I just can't be in the sun -- period.

But I don't want to look like a loser, either. I see Asian ladies carrying parasols -- and if anyone knows what's up with taking care of skin, it's the gals of east Asia -- and no one seems to give it a second thought.

But I am not Asian. So would I just look like the weird American carrying an umbrella on a sunny day? Maybe. But when I look at my speckled, sun-damaged forearm I think it might be worth it.

  1. I say go for it. I've been going to the Austin City Limits music festival, and I'm in the hot Texas sun all day. I carry a parasol because it's the only thing that works.

  2. Woo hoo! You're my parasol inspiration!
